Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is the most widely used titanium alloy, accounting for approximately 50% of total titanium usage worldwide. It is an alpha-beta alloy strengthened by aluminum and vanadium, providing an excellent combination of high strength, low weight, corrosion resistance, and good fatigue performance.
Grade 5 offers significantly higher strength than commercially pure titanium (Grade 2) while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance in marine and chemical environments. It performs well at moderately elevated temperatures and is widely specified in aerospace, medical, marine, and high-performance engineering applications.
The alloy is commonly supplied to ASTM B265, ASTM B348, ASTM B381, and aerospace specifications such as AMS 4911, AMS 4928, and AMS 4965, depending on product form.
